‘Blue and Red’ by Zhou Tao also at Beaufort Beyond Borders in Belgium
Blue and Red, a video by Zhou Tao commissioned by the first Han Nefkens - BACC Asian Contemporary Art Award, can been seen this summer at Beaufort Beyond Borders in Belgium. This intriguing film won first prize at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in Germany, and was shown during the New Directors/New Films festival at the MoMA in New York City in March this year.

The video work by Chinese artist Zhou Tao (1976) reflects on the activities and facets of daily life. Our constantly changing identity interacting with others and reality inspire him to no end. Tao is part of a generation of Chinese artists who consciously experienced the swift urbanization and industrialization of their native land. This too is a theme one finds in his work. The artist did not make a conscious decision to use video as a medium or a language. The close link between the result of the camera and daily reality particularly sparked his imagination.

Beaufort Beyond Borders - an art project along the Belgium coast - takes place from 21 June until 21 September 2015.

The ArtAids foundation was set up in 2006 at Han Nefkens’ initiative. ArtAids fights AIDS with the power of art as its most important weapon. ArtAids invites leading artists to produce work that is inspired by AIDS and related problems. These works of art are used to raise the public’s consciousness and to encourage their involvement.

Fundació Han Nefkens

The Han Nefkens Foundation is a private non-profit organisation that was set up in Barcelona in 2009 with the aim of promoting the production of contemporary artworks. The mission is to stimulate artistic creation in Barcelona by offering international artists an opportunity to create artworks and interventions in the city, and to promote other fields of contemporary creation.

Han Nefkens started to collect art in 2000. The H+F Collection, named after himself and his partner Felipe, is in long-term loan to various museums in The Netherlands and abroad. Nowadays Han Nefkens is not only active as a collector but also as an initiator of international art projects, often in collaboration with museums and other art institutions.
