‘We Fragment, Collect and Narrate’, exhibition at Cultuurcentrum Mechelen, Belgium (05-10 / 15-12-2013)
This exhibition is curated by Sayoko Nakahara, H+F Curatorial Grant 2012-2013 at FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais.
Collecting various information and materials fragmented by computers, people narrate their own stories based on their daily life and personal experiences. This exhibition reinterprets the significance of collage, assemblage and montage within a contemporary context, and investigates how contemporary art can respond to our complex and chaotic society, producing a sense of ‘new poetics’.
Participant artists include: Pawel Althamer, Cosima von Bonin, Carol Bove, Matthew Brannon, Marcel Broodthaers, Theo Cowley, Jeremy Deller, Haris Epaminonda, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Felix Gmelin, Daan van Golden, Hella Jongerius, Scott King, Josephine Meckseper, Boris Mikhailov, Sarah Ortmeyer, Man Ray, Gerard Ruhm, Joachim Schmid and Joëlle Tuerlinckx, in addition to the guest artists: Julie Cockburn, Catherine Lommee, Julia Rometti & Victor Costales and Jan Wawrzyniak.
H+F Curatorial Grant is an ambitious and unique project, which allows FRAC Nord–Pas de Calais (Director: Hilde Teerlinck) in close partnership with Han Nefkens to give international curators the opportunity to participate in the development of exhibition projects based on the collection of FRAC.
